Book Reviewers/Bloggers
Anyone we think can help our Users find the next great book is deemed a Curator. This includes major book reviewers; small, great bloggers; and local bookstores.
Being a Curator on Zola Books allows exposure to new readers, and will let you interact with your current readers in a setting where they’re actively reading, buying, and talking about books. You’ll also be able to make some money off books you promote. See our One Sheet for more information.
You will be listed as an author, with the ability to view your sales info, and you will have all of the abilities a Curator does.
If you see one of your reviews is missing, send an email to our Reviews Manager Phil Hanrahan at Phil@zolabooks.com.
If you go to My Zola and hit Edit Profile, you’ll be able to fill in a load of information about your presence elsewhere online. By putting in your Twitter URL, your tweets will stream in the right-hand column of your page. If you have an RSS feed, teasers of your blog and website posts will appear in your profile’s Activity Feed.

If you’re a book reviewer and have further questions or would like to join Zola, contact Phil Hanrahan at Phil@zolabooks.com.
If you would like to become a curator, contact Sharon Skettini at Sharon@zolabooks.com.
Books, Ratings, Recommendations
Our recommendation engine will launch later this fall. It has been designed to base its picks not on the ratings and search habits of the general public, but based on your particular ratings, lists, and the people who matter to you. Books are personal! Recommendations shouldn’t feel impersonal. We want our recommendations to be smart and unexpected.
Books you’ve rated affect what Zola recommends to you. The more you rate, the better your recommendations.
When you see a set of stars on the cover of a book, that’s how the book was rated by the person’s page you’re on. Any other set of stars is your own rating.

Due to issues involving Digital Rights Management (DRM), for now you can only read books on Zola that you bought on Zola.
Zola Exclusives are DRM-free. Email us for your copy. Most publishers require DRM protection, and we respect their policies. For publishers who do sell their books DRM-free, shoot us an email at support@zolabooks.com and we’ll send you your DRM-free copy.
We do sell some of our Zola Exclusives outside of the United States. If you would like to inquire about the availability of a certain title, please email us at support@zolabooks.com.
Send us an email about it at support@zolabooks.com!

If you open a storefront on Zola Books, you receive a majority of the net revenue on any book sold through your storefront. Your customers can also Pledge Allegiance to your store, so for any book they buy on the entire website, you receive a majority of the net revenue. Zola is also device independent, so you won’t lose a customer just because they own a Kindle.
The best way is simply to be an active Zola user. Create lists, answer questions, recommend books, post events, make announcements about upcoming books—all of this will make you more visible on the site, attracting new customers.
To interact on Zola, go to your My Zola page and hit Edit Profile. There, you can check three boxes in the section “Audience Interaction.” These will allow Users to ask you questions and for you to post announcements and events. Fielding questions is a great way to recreate an in-store experience online. Users will be able to ask for reading suggestions, help finding a particularly elusive print book, and anything else. Announcements and events will help you promote your physical store if you post book club information and upcoming author readings.
You can also create staff book lists, make announcements about your new favorite book, and generally bring the personal touch of your brick-and-mortar location to your Zola page.

Make sure that you have gone to your profile, selected Edit Profile, and checked the boxes next to Announcements and Events (see above). Head back to your profile page where you will see a “New Post” section below your Sales Summary. Click on whichever action you’d like and fill in as much information as you’d like. If you think you’re good to go, hit “Post.” If you want to see how the post will appear to users, click “Preview.” From there you can decide to edit it further or post it. Click “Save Draft” if you want to come back to it another time.

Any user on Zola Books can Pledge Allegiance to a bookstore that has a storefront on ZolaBooks.com. When a user clicks the Pledge button below your store’s picture on your profile page, your store will receive 60% of the net revenue for any book the pledged customer buys, anywhere on the site, at any time. A user only has to pledge allegiance once to support your store with any future purchases they may make.
If you want to join Zola, send an email to Darin, our Director of Bookseller Relations, at Darin.Sennett@zolabooks.com.

Yes! After you purchase a book, you will have the opportunity to mark it as private. This will keep others on the site from seeing your purchase and any future comments you make in the book. You can also mark a book as private after you’ve purchased it and even started reading. Simply go to My eBooks at the top of the page when you’re logged in on ZolaBooks.com and view your purchased books. Next to each book there is an option to mark it as private.
Anyone who follows you can see what you post, comment, or highlight. In the coming months you will be able to hide users, but for now, know that a stranger may see what you post.
If someone is harassing you in any manner, send us an email at support@zolabooks.com and we will take action.
